I didn’t know #Skype protocol was based on P2P. Just to double check, can someone confirm? I don’t like that, time to switch to another messaging client…https://twitter.com/fs0c131y/status/981812173142978561 …

Yes, almost everything is P2P in skype, one of many reasons why skype leaked IPs which caused DDoS problems in the e-sport scene.

It's always been p2p, but they are in the process of moving to a client server or cloud model. Seehttps://www.lifewire.com/skype-changes-from-p2p-3426522 …

It is if you disregard the fact that it isn't E2E encrypted (and they had to hand over encryption keys to the Russian gvt not so long ago), and not all chats are even encrypted at all.

Indeed. Although it's closed-source proprietary stuff owned by Facebook, so I'd have difficulties trusting them (I'm a difficult guy).

Skype is now worst of both worlds: partly P2P so it sends your data all over the place, and partly centralized so Microsoft can read your chats and censor them too.https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3029334/microsoft-aims-to-ban-offensive-language-in-skype-office-xbox-and-other-services …

It was always P2P. After Microsoft purchased they moved most of the backend to Azure. But i believe not 100%.

Yes, it is, infact it does firewall circumventing by jumping ports, using udp and tcp and lastly well know port 443 to get inside the network. Also the inner protocol isn't tls.

There is something called as Skype supernode, which is the nearest server available based on geographical Location to pinpoint ur location for better call quality, so they say.

Supernodes are p2p Supernodes, aren’t they? Centralized server architecture is what I think they’re up to.
