In recent months, we see more and more mobile mining #Android apps. Someone has already made an app to detect if an app is mining #cryptocurrency? At first sight, it should not be super complicated.

While it's a very good idea, Android probably has checks in place to detect continuous high usage of CPU by apps.

Actually some of the latest phones have. They warn you about apps who are consuming high CPU and draining the batteries. Latest phones having Android N or above I believe. OnePlus especially is good in flagging off such apps.

Mostly by checking multiple mining libs and/or network traffic. CPU consumption abnormal behavior has a lot of FPs ;)

Peut-être qu'en cherchant des références aux scripts de minage (type Coinhive) dans le code, ça peut le faire ? Poke encore @ExodusPrivacy qui pourrait l'ajouter.

My idea was more to check regularly the CPU consumption in order to detect abnormal behaviour

Maybe by checking for the presence of constants used for the crypto algorithm used in mining, e.g. curve parameters for secp256k1 or start state of SHA-256? :)

        Replying to @Serianox_ @fs0c131y and

If we can determine the code signature of Coinhive, we can detect it with our regular method.

The trend I quoted is from a confidential report. The sigs and analysis are publicly available from many security vendors such as PA. https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/resources/blogs/unit42-unauthorized-coin-mining-browser.html …
