1/ In this request, the @narendramodi's #Android #application sends silently and without the user's consent, his IP address and a unique identifier of his phone. This personal data is sent to the website http://api.narendramodi.in  which is located in the US.pic.twitter.com/18Ie8JAuXM

2/ As the application is available in Europe, it must comply with the European regulation called #GDPR. Since an IP address is considered as a personal data, the user must give his consent and must be able to opt out from this data collection.pic.twitter.com/yoJBQsCSMh

3/ The @narendramodi's #Android #application does not meet these requirements and so is breaking this European regulation.

5/ The unique phone identifier send by the @narendramodi's #Android #application is composed of multiple device specific information: board, brand, name of the instruction set, name of the industrial design, manufacturer, model, name of the productpic.twitter.com/kO33eeFjGN

6/ So if you install the @narendramodi's #Android #application on your phone, you are giving a lot of device information to @narendramodi without your consent

You think every app on the Play Store is not already sending this data to the Firebase or other Analytics server ? Why make such a big noise about this? I thought you had something more user centric. They don’t need to send IP address. It can be collected on the server too.

If your app is doing it without user consent, your app is gonna be banned in Europe with the new GDPR. Don’t try to justify with “but others are doing it too”

The Europe part is interesting. I am yet to see a single app that asks before it collects OS level information, on either store. Can you point me to one that does it ? Will help identify best practice.

What specifically do you mean by OS level info? About IP, not all Apps need or collect it. If you’re making an app/software with Europe as target, I highly suggest to read the new GDPR. I don’t develop apps. But in my field, we’ve had to change privacy policy to meet GDPR.
