One minute after my post on @narendramodi's #android app, the "App team" created a new Twitter profile to discuss with me. We had a nice discussion. In order to be fair, here their first answer.pic.twitter.com/4JbdoSefpt
You can add location information to your Tweets, such as your city or precise location, from the web and via third-party applications. You always have the option to delete your Tweet location history. Learn more
But all agree on that right ? Here is a screenshot of NaMo app which terms and conditions one agree on.. and I have seen this kinds of permission asked in almost all apps and there are some who also asks much more details bt sadly no one reads T&C and der is no option to opt outpic.twitter.com/h6QZ88j973
This screen is not a T&Cs screen. It only ask you to give the permissions to the app. This is different
Can you explain how is that different ??
Assume you get a job. T&Cs are like legal Papers and Documents that you agree to sign before joining the company. Permissions are nothing but the Guards who let you enter to the company premises.
Just wanted to ask , do Indians apps also have to comply with GDPR or you are mentioning it just as some base for data protection
As far as I know, if you have European customers/users, which is the case here, you have to comply with GDPR
hey, I am not sure if i have got this wrong but this is the info that i have provided to the app myself so can this be still breach of concent?pic.twitter.com/130b9QDcgd
Yes, even if gave the info, the app has to ask your consent before sharing it
but as they have mentioned they are using a 3rd party as a vendor to consume the data for themselves and not give away the data.. however i do agree that if the vendor does have easy access but then the vendor would be at fault if it misuses it
Now, it means app is violating Google play store policy, right? And thus it should not be on Google play store.
Even they should not log my IP address ? Correct ?
@GooglePlay please advise why this app is still in your play store? @AppleSupport please check for any app violation for the same app on app store as well.
Pardon my French but I thought any Android app asks for permissions it needs when you install. Isn't that consent? Is NaMo app/Clevertap able to use data it hasn't taken permission for? Then that's a larger @Android security issue, not NaMo app issue.https://twitter.com/fs0c131y/status/977454136739364864 …
True. That would qualify as a platform issue. Apps on the Play Store need to be vetted carefully.
In simple terms, @Android should be able to prevent such malware. But then, the ecosystem is designed for #SurveillanceCapitalism.https://twitter.com/Stupidosaur/status/977586047252037633 …
