Elliot Alderson Retweeted Bad Packets Report

#Coinhive script found on an Indian governmental website by the Awesome @bad_packetshttps://twitter.com/bad_packets/status/974647437863219202 …

    Bad Packets Report @bad_packets
#Coinhive found on the website of Union Public Service Commission (India) - http://www.upsc.gov.in/  This is an interesting case of #cryptojacking as it's injecting the short URL form of Coinhive (cnhv[.]co) via the code shown in the screenshot. cc: @fs0c131y pic.twitter.com/b4GAI1HIEs

@fs0c131y Is it possible that this script could be found on htttps websites too ?

Yes, it doesn't matter if the website is delivered via HTTP or HTTPS.

Then there's not a way to stop mining except disabling JavaScript, right ?

Well, that's the most drastic solution. Just use minerBlock instead.https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/minerblock/emikbbbebcdfohonlaifafnoanocnebl?hl=en …

Better to depend on good antivirus software since they roll out updates which disable coinhive scripts. Check out Malwarebytes:https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/blog.malwarebytes.com/security-world/2017/10/why-is-malwarebytes-blocking-coinhive/amp/ …

depending on an antivirus alone won't be enough. Many of the affected websites you discovered easily bypassed AVs, while MinerBlock was successful in blocking them, so I think using a dedicated extension is a much better solution in this case.

        Replying to @xd4rker @bad_packets and

Then the only best solution available is MinorBlock, but what if one is accessing website through mobile browser or internet explorer/edge or any other browser where there is no such extension. Is there any other possible solution available to block mining ?

@fs0c131y is it possible that script was put in place by hackers from outside? Or is it possible only for personnel maintaining that website?

Many sites do this to generate revenue, some explicitly ask for permission, some don't. Just like ad blocker, people should start using extension like #NoCoin to block such mining scripts.
