.@Paytm here I come! Spoiler: There is no good reason to ask root permission for this apppic.twitter.com/IFinNotFaL

I have seen this multiple times and they ask for root permission only to display the message that it is not safe to use Paytm on rooted device and Paytm won't be responsible for mishap. That's my argument, there might be something I'm missing.

This is not how you check if a phone is rooted. If you are right, it show the level of incompetency of these guys.

if my understanding is correct, recent version of android has 'safetynet' that checks whether a device is rooted or not. apps needs to just query it no need for requesting root access

Actually magisk allows to bypass the safety net, so i think that's why they are asking for root permission.

I have my doubts. Banking apps detects that phone is rooted without anything but @Paytm and some other apps ask for Permission. Wonder why ?

Some rely on safetynet by google. https://developer.android.com/training/safetynet/attestation.html … , others try to do their own thing.

There's no need to ask for root permission to check whether phone is rooted or not *facepalm*. And that's what they thought then i sincerely doubt capabilities of their developers.
