        I have seen this multiple times and they ask for root permission only to display the message that it is not safe to use Paytm on rooted device and Paytm won't be responsible for mishap. That's my argument, there might be something I'm missing.

        This is not how you check if a phone is rooted. If you are right, it show the level of incompetency of these guys.

        if my understanding is correct, recent version of android has 'safetynet' that checks whether a device is rooted or not. apps needs to just query it no need for requesting root access

        @Paytmcare Why don't you do that without prompting the user? This approach is totally flawed as: - (a) an user denying the super user prompt would let your app think that the device is not rooted. - (b) it raises eyebrows. Even though you may not execute rogue actions.

        Several methods exist that can be used to detect a rooted mobile without executing a privileged command. Hope you fix this detection algorithm in an update...
