Hi @HuaweiMobile
! In the #HuaweiP8Lite, I found a system application made by Huawei called "imonitor". Among other things, this app is able to dump all the internet traffic of the user.pic.twitter.com/SLHgo55qJc
To check if you have this app installed: 1) Open Settings 2) Apps 3) More -> Show system processes 4) Find imonitor in the listpic.twitter.com/bzhK1uYOuo
After going through the setup wizard, I noticed the service LogCollectService which belong to imonitor. At each boot, this service is started and never killed. imonitor has dangerous permissions out of the box like: - ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION - READ_PHONE_STATE - SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOWpic.twitter.com/JscmUUAGnL
In AndroidManifest.xml, the LogBroadcastReceiver is listening to an action called "com.huawei.lcagent.TCPDUMP". It's worth to say that this receiver is protected by a signatureOrSystem permission. So only a @HuaweiMobile app or a system app can send this action.pic.twitter.com/iXWJGRw0Sm
When the TCPDUMP action is sent, the LogBroadcastReceiver will start the LogCollectService. In the onStartCommand method of LogCollectService, the method setTcpdumpLogCat is called with the "status" and "cmd" extras.pic.twitter.com/f1hSaXpIWo
This method will start a tcpdump capture if status is equal to 1 and save the log to /data/log/android_logs/tcpdump.logpic.twitter.com/MEhE90Px8y
To summarise:
1) An app called imonitor is installed in the #HuaweiP8Lite
2) This app is running 3 services all the time
3) @HuaweiMobile implemented, on purpose, for the Huawei and system app use only, the possibility to dump all the internet traffic
Of course, this is not the only one feature of this app, I will come back to this app later.
Have an P8 Lite ALE-L21 and does not seem to have that app
The model number of my P8 Lite is PRA-LX1
