Appboy now called @Braze is a mobile marketing company based in NYC. Their "open source" #android SDK is available here https://github.com/Appboy/appboy-android-sdk …. In the README they mentioned the component android-sdk-base, an analytics library, but the code is not available...pic.twitter.com/XZanA2dGQ1

As mentioned in their #github page, this android-sdk-base component is available here https://appboy.github.io/appboy-android-sdk/sdk/com/appboy/ … You can download the AAR file (#android standard library format) and reverse it :Dpic.twitter.com/O2SG0by71g

Before going to the code let's read their privacy page https://www.braze.com/privacy/  @Braze can collect device Information, application usage info, website info, personally identifiable info...pic.twitter.com/con3HePE19

How to opt out from the data collection made by the @Braze service? Their advice is to uninstall the developer applications that integrate the Braze Service 🤦‍♂️pic.twitter.com/BtMOyYrwWR

As said in their privacy policy, if you use #twitter for authentication in an app which use @Braze service they collect a lot of infos: twitterUserId, twitterHandle, name, description, followerCount, followingCount, tweetCount, profileImageUrlpic.twitter.com/3i7w4xfpvQ

It's clearly worst if you use #facebook for authentication. They collect: - facebookId - firstName - lastName - email - bio - cityName - gender - numberOfFriends - list of your likes - birthdaypic.twitter.com/t9q3H2P3wd

Moreover, thanks to the AppboyGeofenceService, the @Braze SDK is able to get the user location.pic.twitter.com/efZGvgt8Wq

Also, the developer has multiple methods to optimize this location collection: - setLocationUpdateDistance - setEnableBackgroundLocationCollection - setDisableLocationCollection - setLocationUpdateTimeIntervalSecondspic.twitter.com/qjJD6mEk1G

So @Brazer can you open source your analytics library, the component android-sdk-base, like the rest of your SDK?

Let's be clear, if an app is using the @Braze SDK you will not know it and so you will have no way to opt out from this data collection...unless the app developper is honest and care about your privacy

So except if the developer disable it, your location will be send to the @Braze server (not even the server of the app you use) and possibly share with the @Braze 3rd parties as stated in their privacy policy.pic.twitter.com/BxcFaIjgCX

@SoundCloud @opera @Airbnb @imgur @PicsArtStudio @Deezer @lyft @okcupid @viber you are using this SDK in your #android app. Any thoughts about using this intrusive SDK? Do you really think your users are agree to share their data with @Braze?

I reversed the @opera app and they don't use the method setDisableLocationCollection. It's mean, according to the documentation, the location data is collected once at the start of each sessionpic.twitter.com/2coFKu6EuS
