I'm trying to find a way to finance my research in order to be able to continue this cool investigation job. Money is needed to buy the hardware. What do you think about crowdfunding? @Kickstarter project? All ideas are welcome!

This job will need an income on a regular basis, because it's an infinite job :) May a "montly donation" would be better ? Another way : become regular contractor for a state agency (like Fr CNIL / ANSSI ) ?

Idea : creating a "label", something like "privacy-verified phone" then sale this label to phone operators / vendors / distributors (hard way but useful business)

being an independant labelling agency (such ISO / Bio / ROHS etc) is indeed a very profitable business model.

The pitch is super simple: I'm reversing smartphone firmware to show how phone makers used to send back home your personal data.

Quite honestly, I'd say you need a company (infosec, consultancy) to pay you a salary for that. From what I've seen, it's really complicated to sustain such an activity in the long-term. Ping me should you wanna discuss in further detail, glad to know more and help if I can :)
