The code is located in NetworkMonitor class in the isCaptivePortal() method
@fs0c131y this will be to comply with newly passed cyber security laws I'm China. China wants Chinese data on Chinese servers and have to keep certain info.
and filtered what Chinese people can see :)
is it necessarily censorship? it could also be the case that everything outside of china is potentially blocked / has a longer response time. This is just to test for a captive portal
G.cn is used instead of the "normal" url, g.cn is not blocked by China's great firewall. this part of the code's used to test "connectivity" on android, and displays a small "cross" on wifi/data icon if unreachable
You right, this Chinese differentiation is used in the methods: 1) isCaptivePortal() 2) sendParallelHttpProbes(URL httpsUrl, URL httpUrl, URL httpChinaUrl, URL fallbackUrl)pic.twitter.com/AEe1U8wC63
I think the Chinese government is the one to blame. In China, you can't access Google at all unless you sneak through the great firewall, so oneplus add that code to get a 204 response.
isn't used to verify if you are in a locked/restricted network ?
exactly, nothing more... some OEMs hardcode it per "region rom", some does whatever checks to figure
What exactly does this censor except for the one blacklisted URL you showed in the screenshot? The change of the Google URLs could be necessary to be able to use captive portals in China?
looks like Russia is China too for my oneplus3.
Shocked
Whereabouts is this code? There's various DNS changers that work via VPN, would this circumvent that?
