After a FOTA, during the first boot,
@Samsung is mounting a partition called "hidden"pic.twitter.com/TLxDWuri7i

Of course, there is a specific behavior if you are a Chinese citizenpic.twitter.com/CZFE3i9Msq

This partition is used to install the applications they want after a FOTA. I love the "/system/hidden/" + cscCode + "/hidden_app"... not shady at all...pic.twitter.com/l2BigmQ5nx

To know if it is a Chinese model they used their sales codes. Your sales code is located in "system/csc/sales_code.dat". Today, they have a isChinaModel() method. How long before having a isIndianModel() or isFrenchModel()?pic.twitter.com/pQgl5TTCff

You must be able to find your "install history" in the shared preferences of the apkpic.twitter.com/5Se0lJ2GxC

This is a pretty old thing, someone already noticed this "hidden" partition in 2011https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952164 …

To sumarize: -
@SamsungMobile is mounting a "hidden" partition only during the first boot, like this you have less chance to notice. - They install without your consent the apps they want - This apps are in a folder called "hidden_app"... think about the naming...Show this thread

I think Hidden partition is like a Virtual environment where it's a another layer inside your mobile , where you can store/secure important files, that will be not be available unless you know the password.Even install apps in that space.https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/what-is-the-secure-folder-and-how-do-i-use-it/ …

Can you give some examples how it is harmful for the users? As I believe almost all such companies have similar hidden activities in different ways.

I am not sure but I guess lot many of handset manufacturers are doing the same or even worse ... is there way for layman to identify and report ... and I’d fear Chinese manufacturers doing it for India even more now...
