Delta 8 regulation is back on the table. A new bill from Rep. William Lamberth (R) and Sen. Richard Briggs (R) would ban the sale of a hemp-derived cannabinoid to anyone under 21, add a 5% tax and set up a regulatory structure. Right now, Delta 8 operates in a legal gray area.

At 20,100 residents for every district member, the Metro Nashville Council represents significantly more people than most of Tennessee's other county governments. But, compared to other metro city councils, the opposite is true.

In an interview yesterday, House Speaker Cameron Sexton said lawmakers could file bills this session to create a three-strikes policy on violent crime and a way to automatically charge some juveniles as adults for certain violent crimes.

Here are my notes with initial questions about the proposed state law, including- Despite comments by sponsors, it's not clear Aug 2023 council elections are preempted. This doesn't set a default number of CMs, or say whether the number can be picked by ordinance or referendum.

House Majority Leader William Lamberth and Sen. Bo Watson filed legislation this afternoon to shrink Metro governments to a max of 20 reps (i.e. targeting Nashville's 40-member council). There are no specifics on at-large members or how this impacts the 2023 elections.
