    Today I learned that it is common for cargo ships to broadcast warnings to pirates via ad hoc use of the "destination" field in AIS messages. Here's a bulk carrier sailing through the Gulf of Aden, broadcasting "ARMED GUARD ONBOARD".

    Isn't this a thing of beauty? When mapping you must take into account the huge height differences between street levels. Yet do not want to clutter the map with superfluous information. I believe we have achieved the right balance here.
