    From Gourette, we hiked up toward the Col d'Aubisque. We didn't quite make it all the way, but still had some wonderful panoramas.

    Station Gourette is a smaller station, but with a very nice view all the same. Rather than skiing (only a little snow this time of year), we opted for a mountainside jacuzzi.

    Our first day drive took us along the Route du Fromage. Ossau-Iraty is the local appellation. There seemed to be someone selling cheese at every turn. So we stopped and bought a flavorful brebis-chevre mix.

    Maison D'Orride is southwest of Pau in an isolated, idyllic setting. Very peaceful, and the interior has been restored in vintage styles.

    We decided the best way to learn about Béarn was to go visit this corner of the Pyrénées. It did not disappoint. Spectactular mountain views, cheese, and the wonderful Maison D'Orride B&B were among the highlights.
