I can think of a few answers but the most obvious is simply "take risks"

I believe in the following two, “shamelessly exploiting glitches in ranking/filtering systems,” (to a degree the well-bred would feel ashamed of), & “overcompensate with whatever you have a lot of”. Hard work can be one, but also charm, looks, etc: All’s fair in love & class war.
