Despite journalists working harder than ever during the pandemic, cost of living pressures increasing, and recent bumper profits, Nine are still offering a pay deal below inflation, no improvements to career progression and no guaranteed minimums for freelancers. #FairShareNine

Things are much the same for cartoonists/illustrators freelancing in media -- "I'm on same rate as 20 years ago" v common to hear

The 70c per word rate I received to freelance for SMH & The Age in 2002 continues to be the going rate for many freelancers today - that rate freeze equates to a 55% pay cut in real terms, 70c in 2002 equates to ~$1.09 today. rba.gov.au/calculator/ann #FairShareNine

Current pay offer from Nine management is a significant real wage cut (and comes after years of cost cutting and wage suppression). Yet the company is making record profits. What gives ?

Journos took a zero per cent pay rise in June 2020 because we love our jobs & care about public interest journalism. Nine’s earnings are ⬆️ 53%. Especially for younger journos and freelancers, it’s time for a #fairsharenine

I've been freelancing in the finance and business space to the newspapers now owned by Nine for nearly 15 years. It's time to set minimums for freelancers #fairsharenine

This is Swat, Pakistan. Pakistan is experiencing an unprecedented disaster right now, and 1/3 of the country is under water. 5 years ago this would have been front page news. Now, it is invisible.

"Sorry, we promised bad policy at the election, it'd be a betrayal of trust if we improved it" is a hell of a thing for a government to openly admit to being their default way of thinking about governing

Well done to the polite and tolerant customer service officer Renee at dealing with an abusive and possibly unwell ranting customer in the Miranda office with patience and kindness. Impressive restraint. 🤩

Bees and ants use the same chemical signal to induce "clean up" when one of them dies. The ants might be trying to create the environment that they usually put dead ants into. If so, this is basically a funeral and a really cool example of emergent cross-species interaction.

I was a victim of Robo debt. I was so frightened and didn't know how I had accumulated such a debt. I had recently been widowed and they said I owed them $20,000.00. I am still a member of my Union and I rang them. Thanks to them I was given the help of a Solicitor and a S C.
