Not true. Catholics always had the vote. You're referring to the end of the ratepayer franchise for local council elections, which affected non-Catholics too. Abolished in GB in 1946 and NI in 1969.

Not true. Catholics were denied the vote in Ireland until the Roman Catholic Relief Act of 1829 made voting possible but increased the minmum property level to effectively gerrymander the island. This practice continued in NI post-partition and ended in 1969

So English politicians are happy for the UK to take back control and leave the European Union (against the wishes of the Scottish & Northern Irish people) but not so happy if the Scottish and Northern Irish want to leave the UK union. Strange that . .

This isn't true. There's lots to be said about how Catholics were discriminated against in N.I - including in terms of representation - but they had the vote right from 1922 when NI came into being.

You really need to look that history up. Property qualifications, gerrymandering were the order of the day from creation of 'NI'.

Mate we don't have universal suffrage now, prisoners can't vote.

Reminder to anyone that has an issue with this that prisoners are just as (perhaps more) affected by the policy of government as anyone else, and for that reason alone, are entitled to the right to elect their representation.
