I scanned every review of EarthBound to try and figure out why it failed. http://gamepreservation.tumblr.com/post/150411590134 …pic.twitter.com/IAqmVMjmb3

Ah, 90s. [obligatory Klax joke]
the scratch and sniff trading cards in the back of the packed-in players' guide were bizarre and made the box smell weird
the problem here is that this advertisement would have been a straight bullseye for young me, but I had a genesis
I saw this ad and didn't want to play the game, and now it's my favorite ever, so yeah that ad "stinks"
Marketing for EB was weak but I dunno what couldve been done better. At least for me the modern day setting had perfect appeal
I wish they had focused on the "Modern Day Road Trip" aspect of it like Nintendo Power showcased here: https://ssl-forum-files.fobby.net/forum_attachments/0008/2133/part4.jpg …
I remember the Boogerman ad that stretched across several pages at the bottom. Unique, but gross.
Well, for Dragon Quest VII, Earthbound's kin series, I got my first clue: IGN didn't even play it and confused it with VIII
glancing at these ads my first impression is Boogerman The RPG
