It is time to require software to be usable offline and to force manufacturers to declare precisely (down to the bits) what data they send and why. That every piece of "productivity"-software turns into spyware can not continue.

And here is the support document showing that you can only chose between "Basic" and "Full" telemetry, but not "None". I think this violates the

What happens when there is no local network connection available? Does Word store the data and tries to send it at a later point of time? Does Word just quit, too?

Why does Open/LibreOffice not apply here? If you want Microsoft to change its ways, you're going to need leverage. LibreOffice gives you that leverage.
