It is time to require software to be usable offline and to force manufacturers to declare precisely (down to the bits) what data they send and why. That every piece of "productivity"-software turns into spyware can not continue.

Why does Open/LibreOffice not apply here? If you want Microsoft to change its ways, you're going to need leverage. LibreOffice gives you that leverage.

Because the open source attempt to emulate UI and behaviour of Word succeeded in the domain of being as buggy and resource consuming, but not in being sufficiently compatible to reliably use when you need to work on files together with die-hard Word users. Even tried multi.
