    Part of the difficulty of ML in healthcare is getting computer science people and medicine people to speak the same language to learn from each other. Distribution shift is spectrum bias Precision is positive predictive value Recall is sensitivity Test set is external validation

    This is probably the most critical issue overall for ML in healthcare. Even more worrisome is the lack of understanding of this statistical concept and these ML definitions by the medical community.

    I'd love to see how any normal ct head detector performs on something rare and subtle like leptomeningeal disease. Until someone shows me conclusively otherwise (even a single example), I'm going to keep ranking "normal detectors" as among the most dangerous applications of AI.
