Interested in structural inheritance in foreland basins, transpressional fault propagation styles, mafic sills in fractured basement? See our new paper in "Basement-Controlled Deformation of Sedimentary Sequences, Anadarko Shelf, Oklahoma"

“The highly competitive nature of science means that some younger scientists put up with the race to the bottom in the hope that it will help them navigate a route to the top.”. In the wake of the recent report, this is amazing stuff from . 👏🏾

Our new study of marine terraces on the northern Hikurangi margin is out in BSSA, where we found two sites very close together have different earthquake ages over the past c. 2 ka:

Another early morning train - but to an exciting day in London speaking at the at on ‘Geology for the Future’. Will be speaking about and how geologists can make a great career for themselves in this sector.

Great article by about the challenges & joys of science writing in Zulu. One of the hardest parts about SciComm in English is avoiding jargon, but in a language with no word for dinosaur, you are forced to use more creative, accessible language.

Absolutely brilliant example of mafic dikes (Fe Mg rich magma; dark layers) intruding Archean age (lighter) rocks. These are the well known Jhansi area (Jhansi, Khajuraho, Lalitpur, Babina) dike swarms dated to be ~1.98 billion years old.

I want a program that automatically connects reviewer comments to your ms and adjusts the line numbers when you edit the text. So I can then report what I said, what they asked, and what I changed easily. I find the reviewing process to be unnecessarily tedious.

whenever I feel bad for not wanting to get out of bed I remember it took animals like 150 million years to leave the ocean for the first time and I can relax again, like what’s the rush

Finally, cumm. Vsep vs distance suggest that with increasing accrual of offset on the faults, shallower strata CVsep-D curves transition from low-value regions (<0.25·CVsepmax) to moderate/higher value regions i.e. possible model for fault evolution in transpressional settings?

Interestingly, cross-plots of Vsep of the deep units against Vsep of the shallow units suggest that basement-driven fault propagation has greater efficiency of propagating fault-related deformation to shallower depths compared to the intrasedimentary-driven nucleation/propagation

Also, we found that the large basement-rooted faults show 2 styles of vertical separation vs depth (Vsep-Z) relationships: a basement-driven unidirectional fault propagation (Style-1), & intrasedimentary-driven fault nucleation and bi-directional propagation (Style-2).

We observe pervasive deformation of the basement by basement-bounded mafic sills, & steep discontinuity planes (faults) some of which cut into the sed. cover...suggesting that deformation of the sed. cover represents partial inheritance of the heterogeneous basement deformation.
