LRT I cannot stress how...striking (in a really bad way) it is that most kids books seem to feature male protagonists (even animals!) (Yes I mix and match genders when reading. Going to become harder to do when kiddo starts doing own reading though)

There’s a kids book by an Australian author/artist, Sha’an D’anthes, called Zoom, expressly avoids gendered pronouns for the protagonist, which is pretty cool

Also There’s a Hippopotamus on the Roof Eating Cake, by Hazel Edwards. And Shaun Tam’s The Arrival, which is *gorgeous*.
