There’s a kids book by an Australian author/artist, Sha’an D’anthes, called Zoom, expressly avoids gendered pronouns for the protagonist, which is pretty cool

Can also recommend Possum Magic (an Australian classic!) and most Bob Graham books, esp Greetings from Sandy Beach, for female characters.
