Vegas likely wont get passed the Kings, very few outside of Vegas consider them contenders and even so they benefited from a rigged expansion draft.

I know, but they’ve defied every single expectation anyone has had for them all year long, so to bet against them going into the playoffs when they’ve been winning games all year, is probably risky. They took 3/5 I believe from LA. If not, 2/4.

The playoffs are an entirely different animal, they lack the experience and they've been pretty bad down the stretch. They're ripe for the taking imo.

My point was about Kovalchuk choosing a non playoff team over a cup favorite, it wasn't about whether they can scrape into the playoffs but if you want to believe the fantasy that the Rangers can win a cup in the immediate future then by all means, have at it.

The thing is the Rangers could very well sneak into the playoffs next season, and if they don’t sneak in, they should be a playoff team by 2019-20. That’s when Kovalchuk comes in. Being a 36 year old vet of the Stanley Cup final, and playoffs, it’s gonna help. Probs better than

Zucc too. He’ll be more of a force, and I know Zucc tries his ass off and he’s a gritty little Swiss player, but he’s being moved before or during the Draft. Kovalchuk will be in the Rangers top 6 and on a line w/ Buch & Namestnikov. The Mother Russia line. Or Zibby at C not Vlad

Zucc is Norweigan, not Swiss; he played in Sweden before the NHL. Regardless of what happens with Kovalchuk, I think it'd be a mistake to trade him - he brings something unique to the lineup.

But you do understand that with the handshake agreement with Kovalchuk that that’s exactly what will happen? Zucc’s cap hit being 4.5 mil makes him insanely valuable & you’re going to get at least a 2nd round pick and an A-prospect. Dallas was interested. Calgary could be as well

Speaking as a Stars fan, if we ended up with Zucc in Dallas, I'd be thrilled - I just think the Rangers will regret trading him.

Not after the Kovalchuk signing. I won’t be surprised if Kovalchuk puts up 25-33 goals with Vladislav and Pavel. I think the difference in production is worth giving Zucc up for and the handshake signing really makes him an expendable veteran.

The Rangers did literally admit “we will be moving from many familiar faces you know.” In their letter to the fans. Holden was only around for 2 years, but Nash was around longer, McDonagh’s been around since they acquired him when he was 18, they drafted Miller. Zucc’s next.
