But even as someone who's spent most of their working life in offices, I don't think I've ever held a job - even a good job! - where I've actually felt secure or valued to the point of not worrying about being randomly fired. And that is COMMON. And THAT is VERY BAD.

I get all of this having recently quit a toxic job. I found a new (relatively similar job) rather quickly when I had to but I was fortunate in several ways.

For example, one of my former co-workers worked at both places and when I was asked by my new manager why I had quit the former place, I explained why and she mentioned my former co-worker and gave me a sort of “yeah, I’ve heard things” response.
