Those pages come from Wizard's First Rule, a book I haven't read since I was about fifteen, but which I was able to pull up in seconds on Google Book Search because the line about "throes of passion" has been seared into my memory ever since.

From memory, Kahlan gets nearly raped something like four times in the first book alone, including being thrown into a pit full of male criminals where another female character was earlier gang-raped.

I also recall BDSM pain ladies who Fear No Man, but who end up submitting to Richard anyway; a cult of women who progressively commit suicide to guilt him into going on a quest, and a WOC being repeatedly dehumanised and raped as a captive, after which Richard kills her husbands.

Oh, and something about women deliberately getting pregnant with mage babies so they can collect benefits from the mage tower, which is viewed in text as a Heinous Lazy Practice to be stopped, and also just... SO MUCH RAPE, YOU GUYS.

But, yeah: if Goodkind wants to pretend that his tantrum about a genuinely lovely piece of cover art was, in fact, rooted in Outrage At Sexism rather than his own petulant sense of entitlement, then I am going to pull receipts.

Also classic libertarian politics encouraging people to get behind benevolent dictator rather than opt for collective action. From memory sexism & racism too. Stopped reading cos got boring but also left nasty aftertaste

I bought 2 of his books secondhand. I only read this one. Only sheer stubbornness got me through even this one. Even aside from all the terrible content you list, the writing (as seen on these pages) is terrible. He’s the only author I actively recommend readers should avoid.
