I've never heard of it, though the Jewish wedding ceremony does incorporate a veil, which can only be lifted after the groom has committed to the marriage.

You actually have to see each other before the vows, to sign the Kettubah (marriage contract). After that, the groom lowers the veil over the bride’s face — it shouldn’t cover her face before that. But they usually don’t see each other before the Kettubah-signing.

Bad/nonreligious, American Jews(especially those marrying non-jews) will follow the tradition thinking it's a western/American superstition, not once thinking it might be Christian specific.

There's a custom at least some Orthodox Jews follow, for the two not to see each other for some time before the wedding. When I got married, we were phone-only for a week.
