That sounds like tempromandibular joint dysfunction. There's exercises you can do to lessen it.

Probably. I had a temple ache for months that no dentist could identify until I saw a jaw specialist. Turns out my neck was too weak.

(Just to add a possible wrinkle to this, it is also possible to have an ear infection that makes it feel like the jaw is to blame.)

Yes. That muscle is connected to your ear. I'd been treating ear "infections" for years until the doc found out I had TMJ.

There is a nerve cluster behind the ear and just above the jaw. When I was first learning wrestling they taught us to jam it with the thumb.

Getting poked there with sufficient force can create one of those "Oh god let go of everything it hurts" freakouts. I do not envy.
