Gaining knowledge is viewed as impurity, making knowing, wanting or contemplating sex an equal sin to doing it.

This is why, to take a current example, so many conservatives are up in arms about the

All the data says that abstinence-only sex education leads to MORE abortions, unsafe sex, STIs, pregnancy etc in teens. Knowledge = safety.

Telling them their options is seen by conservatives to corrupt the purity of their ignorance. But of course, such adults are ignorant too.

They think their own moral purity is preserved by refusing to learn what might corrupt them. This is makes them incapable of informed choice

But conservative dogma is anti-choice in every respect, b/c it's founded on faith, & it doesn't view faith as a decision, but as a calling.

This perspective conventiently detaches the idea of "knowing" from "knowledge". In faith, what you know is what you FEEL, not what's learned

Knowledge corrupts dogma, which makes ignorance a form of purity. And so the refusal to learn becomes a closed circle.

Purity culture + prosperity gospel + distrust of elitists/"getting above your raising" = a huge almost invisible problem, a bubble
