I didn’t know that! I do wonder if it’s a consistent thing though, as IIRC I’ve heard people who’ve had it speak about not being asked to lose weight beforehand, too

The issue with weight-related surgery is that it tends to ignore the reasons why patients became fat in the first place, and without help to make a lifestyle change, even if surgery is successful, patients are likely to not only regain weight but be even less healthy than before.

A device that forces someone to shut up is a horrendous illustration of lack of empathy, listening and understanding. Even keeping a patient locked in hospital to control their alimentation and monitor their status would be more humane.
