It makes me really appreciate both the disclaimer and the fact that the production were actively concerned with the girl's welfare - even though she's only there for two episodes of a 16ep show (thus far; it seems like her arc is done now) it was treated seriously.

I'd initially been worried because of the (very dark) stuff that happens to other child characters early in the show, so I was thinking, fuck, what can be so much worse than that as to need a warning? But I was thinking about the plot, not *what the actor has to do*.

The other child we see possessed early on mostly just trembles and stares; there's one scene where his dad tries to choke him, but it's very quick and not very graphic; the camera focus is elsewhere, so I don't imagine the actor really felt much/any restraint.

Similarly, we see another child hiding under a bed from a murderer, while another witnesses her mother's dead body, and while those are both hugely traumatic events *narratively*, they don't call for physical restraint or exertion by the child actors.

Whereas in this case, the girl is tied up, screams a lot, and has to actively fight against the adults holding her. Which could so easily be really upsetting for a child actor! But it's not something I'd overly considered before this, because it's SO COMMON in western shows.

I'd been holding off finishing the arc, braced for the actress to have to say some disturbing lines you'd normally only give to an adult character or for abuse to be revealed or some terrible body horror, and instead it was just... a scene I'm used to seeing without warnings.

Anyway: this show absolutely WHIPS, but in addition it's also given me some thoughts about how I would, in fact, like shows to make sure their child actors have been carefully monitored and helped when performing scary/distressing scenes, and to tell me about it beforehand.
