The Venn diagram of Americans who lionise cops because "they risk their lives every day!" and Americans who think cops are justified in lethally shooting first because "their life might've been at risk!" is a circle.
I get that shooting to wound is harder, but it seems to me there's a vast gulf of both capability and intent between "trying to incapacitate someone with a single shot, then rendering aid" and "unleashing a hail of bullets with no intention of leaving a survivor."

Cops are “trained” to shoot and then “reassess,” which simply isn’t a usual human reaction. A cop can shoot nine times in about a second, then you ask, “How many times did your shoot?” And they’ll honestly respond, “twice.” Guns and fear and demonization just claim a vast toll.
