Ahhh, so THAT’S what they’re called elsewhere! We call these buchi hereabouts, and aside from the usual red bean and lotus seed fillings, we can sometimes get them filled with ube and cheese :D.pic.twitter.com/kaIZYDOV2V
oh nice! I think they're more commonly called sesame balls in English, but by any name they're delicious and I love them. a friend first intro'd me to them in high school - you used to be able to get a big bag of them for cheap at the asian supermarket near our school
also ube and cheese as a combination... I fear its power. these are two things I love that I would never have thought to put together, and now I want to try one SO BADLY
It’s a pretty traditional combo here in the PH. Ice cream sellers have been selling it that way for so long, and commercial ice cream makers have been packaging that as a flavor combo too. Kinda surprised the Pinoy diaspora hasn’t put them together yet, with ube becoming popular.pic.twitter.com/2dYaxCvbtE
If you’ve got an Asian/Filipino market in the vicinity, you can get the classic “dirty ice cream” (aka street ice cream) flavor combo of ube, cheese, and macapuno by buying those three and scooping them together. Magnolia’s an OG local brand, but I’m sure there’s others.
Yesss they’re so good together! I like ube-cheese myself, but that’s only because I don’t really like coconut in desserts
it's making me want to experiment with cheese and regular sweet potato!
Oooh! I never thought of doing that, but that sounds tasty!
I'm gonna try it! I don't know when, but I'm gonna!
