She also says she would've rated her book lower if she'd known she wasn't fukky out, because (in her view) if she knew Sophie hadn't come out to her family then she would've known she wasn't writing a coming out story from experience and criticised how happy it was. UH.

Has it genuinely not occurred to Haynes that there's no one universally Correct coming out experience? That whether or not a character coming out works in the story is not fundamentally tied to whether the author is queer and has come out themselves?
