Two days ago, I decided to stop doing the dishes. I make all the dinners and I am tired of having to do all the cleaning too. SINCE THEN this pile has appeared and at some point they are going to run out of spoons and cups and plates. Who will blink first? Not me. pic.twitter.com/IZkOwP3a6B

Like I just. The fact that “woman stops doing onerous domestic work after being undervalued, documents failure of husband/boyfriend to pick up the slack” is an entire goddamn genre of social media post at this point should probably tell us something.

Listen: my dad was born in 1932 and HE STILL PULLED HIS WEIGHT AROUND THE HOUSE! He cooked regularly! He did grocery shopping! He looked after me and made the bed and did the washing up! It is actually possible for straight men not to be lazy assholes by default! DEMAND MORE.

The "they" made me think there were also children not pulling their weight which... my mom just made us a schedule and supervised us through it. We probably didn't do enough but active management got her further than passive aggression

My SIL is a CFO. She & my bro have a son. They were going on vacay. SIL was washing dishes. Bro asked if she had packed son's bag yet. SIL replied not yet, kept washing. Bro kept asking. SIL finally stopped washing, went upstairs to pack. Bro got a beer & sat in front of the TV.

My Dad too. He’s done most of the cooking in his home for 40 years.

My dad helped. My FiL helped. My husband helped. My son helps. Current situation is odd. BF helps, but tbh not as much as he should. I deal w/it because I choose to, but don't recommend it. If it were anyone else, he'd be gone in a flash. Much better to be alone than be abused.

They have a dishwasher!!! That’s what really confuses me - the awful behaviour of the rest of the house is even more lazy than it initially looks. All they have to do is load the fecking machine!!

And start it. It’s an important step... Down thread she is so excited that it got loaded, and then she has to ask him if he meant to start it and he says he ran out of time! And like, WTF? No. Just absolutely not an excuse.

My Dad (CIS, straight, White) was born in 1945. My brother was born in 1973 and I in 1976. He stayed at home while my mom went to work as an executive director. He did the cooking and cleaning and primary child rearing. So yeah, enough with this bullshit.
