Like the "redemption arc" where she invites a really talented fanwriter-turned pro onto her show and after they've talked for an hour she grudgingly admits fanfiction may have 0.5 redeeming features is practically inevitable.

The overlap between professional authors - and editors and reviewers, for that matter - and fanfic writers is much, MUCH larger than you seem to realise. If you're wondering why you're getting so much pushback, you just told half your field they don't know their own business.
