vivid memories of a social studies/geography teacher who used to scream at us "YOU'D ALL RESPECT ME IF I WERE A MAN!" before going to get the hardass male geography teacher from down the hall to come yell at her class for her.

similarly an English teacher who harshly rebuked a male student for talking without permission, only to praise a female student seconds later for saying the exact same thing, and who also deputised me to help her mark my class's creative writing work for some reason?? WTF??

like. the ethics of getting one 13yo student to read the stuff her classmates had submitted is dicey as fuck?? which even I realised at the time when one of the pieces was a personal narrative essay by a fellow student about how his older brother beat him up at home??

like, to be clear, I had a lot of good female teachers, but also some really shitty ones, and in hindsight the ones who talked the biggest game about how fair and rightminded they were were, as opposed to just Doing A Good Goddamned Job, were among the worst

We had very different highschool experiences, Foz. I missed out on the crippling female self doubt, but we had “chapel” where on one memorable occasion they taught us about homosexuality + beastiality in the same hour. Oh and they got us to self-identify if we thought gay = okay.

Yikes! I knew your school was shitty about queerness, but I didn’t know it was THAT bad
