There are some ugly, unpleasant exchanges towards the end, with Mingjue confronting Meng Yao — why hasn’t Meng Yao actually come back with edits like he keeps promising? What has Meng Yao been saying to Xichen? When he messages Xichen now, Xichen seems so cold.

What is the secret project that Meng Yao keeps mentioning? These aren’t pretty screencaps, but Nie Huaisang includes them in the package that he is going to be dropping off with the doorman to Xichen’s building. He includes a photocopy of a scrap of paper in Mingjue’s writing.

It’s the name of Xichen’s dad’s agent. The one he passed onto Mingjue. The same one who negotiated that killer contract and beautiful advance — for a first time author! from one of the big five — for Meng Yao.
