like I just. setting aside the irony of teaching kids about community help and then emailing parents to say “don’t help them, they should be independent,” THIS IS A FUCKING TERRIBLE WAY TO TEACH WRITING OF ANY KIND, OH MY GOD.

If you’re going to start with informative writing, start them with SHIT THEY ACTUALLY KNOW ALREADY, like their families or pets or favourite games! Don’t try to make them absorb abstract, watered-down Facts to write about at the same time!

anyway I had him write a paragraph about fortnite instead of community helping because he actually knows what that is and can think of things to say about it, which made it easier for him to grasp, kind of, what the structure was meant to be doing.

(and i'm pretty sure I've said this on your twitter before, ak, sorry! IT'S NOT DIRECTED AT YOU! NOR IS IT A CRITIQUE! It's just super frustrating to see so many families struggling going 'homeschool is awful!' when it can be done in 1 hour a day at k-2 ages..an be awesome :(
