Ever since the start of virtual school, my 7yos English work has revolved around a story called Molly Makes A Difference, about a manatee called Molly who stops speedboats from speeding in shallow water in Florida by putting up posters telling them not to. I have... Questions.

My 7yo, bright lad that he is, identified the main problem right away: How can a manatee make posters? Like, if they were posters *for other manatees,* sure, I can suspend my disbelief. But it’s a manatee making posters FOR HUMANS TO READ, which. Hm.

So, I agree with your 7yo about this but I DO have a story about effective cross-species poster making that he might enjoy.

My father-in-law lived for several years with two friends of his, who took care of him during his decline into dementia. The house he bought for all of them to live in had a swimming pool.

One of the problems with a swimming pool is that little animals will think "ah, a nice place to get a drink of water," fall in, and be unable to get out and then you have to fish out their little drowned bodies the next day. It's a bummer.

So one of the women, Linda, made warning posters. They said "DANGER! DANGER!" and had a cartoon picture of a bunny thumping its foot (that being a "danger!" sign for rabbits) and a photo of a small drowned creature in the pool. And "STAY BACK! STAY ALIVE!"

She laminated these posters and then posted them up at small-critter height all around the pool. And they stopped finding little drowned creatures in there. THESE POSTERS WORKED.

Mind you, I think they actually worked because Linda is literally a D&D-style Druid in real life and she used her Animal Empathy powers or maybe these posters functioned as a cantrip that kept the local wildlife out of the pool.
