I’m listening in on my 7yos virtual class this morning. It’s been half an hour and they’ve done one (1) math problem.

Have now spent eight minutes doing what/where/when/why on a single sentence unrelated to the pages they’re going to be reading.

The work the kids were assigned to do on their own involves knowing what brackets are (they have to select a word from brackets to fit the rest of the sentence based on a story they just read). Teacher did not explain what brackets mean. Son was confused.

Instructions on page for kids also instructs them to go and tell a family member about the story they just read. Parents are most likely working themselves and don’t get a heads up about this.

If they are going to do this they *can't* assume even rudimentary computer literacy. It's a skill that has to be learned with the rest, and this is going to be a "fun" year.

Believe it or not...it’s similar with in person teaching whenever something new (technology or non-tech) is introduced to the class. Even for high schoolers.
