Formally begging @JoshBogorad and other hockey commentators to stop using the phrase “all knotted up,” I am BEGGING PLEASE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU’RE SAYING

Formally and respectfully responding to say thanks for listening. But also, much of what commentators say is not meant to be taken literally. Slap shots don’t truly get slapped. Handcuffed players don’t actually wear handcuffs. Swing games don’t really swing.

If it were all literal, it’d become repetitive and boring quickly. One definition of knotted is “tangled.” It’s a different and colorful way to describe that. Just like many other examples used in a broadcast. Hope that helps.

Appreciate the response here, but I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I love the descriptive language; this isn’t a nitpick about definitions! It’s because “knotted up” has a really kinky sex connotation that I’m certain you’re unfamiliar with but which many listeners know.

Like. Uh. I don’t want to scar you here, but “knotting” is what male dogs/wolves do when they mount, bc they have what is actually called a knot on their dicks, and there is a fairly active kink/fantasy subculture based on What If Humans Had Knots Also.

So whenever hockey commentators say that the team/game/score is knotted, a certain portion of hockey twitter dies a little on the inside. Love your commentary and Razor’s though!

I’m not offended?? I find it hilarious more than anything, but if I was unintentionally referencing a kinky thing I’d kinda want to know about it so I could at least make an informed decision about whether to keep doing so or not.
