Sorry, but I had a very brief fling with a woman at Vassar who behaved this way. Her room -- which was not small-- was entirely a nest of clothing, that, yes, smelled. Which is why it was a very brief fling.

I am literally dumbfounded, trying to imagine what kind of child rearing could lead to this.

I wonder if the BF suffered some kind of trauma, and the use of a nest made from familiar things and scents is how he made himself feel safe. That he'd want to keep it, even after moving in with a woman who uses a bed, is telling, if not concerning.

The only way I can make sense of this is; A. It's just a made up story. B. He has some strange issues that in a way are not funny at all and perhaps reddit isn't the best place to start looking for a solution. :(

I mean if he washed the nest and maybe made it of like, sheets and pillows and stuff, I could see it. Maybe with a mattress under it? But grotty old clothes? Just no.
