The thing about explaining anything to a 7yo is that you're never sure how much of it is going to stick or for how long, so we'll invariably revisit it in the future. But it was good to know he'd remembered our earlier conversation about Black American slavery, at least a bit.

His first reaction was that the man who killed George Floyd should have to go to jail. Then he asked if police have guns. I said yes, but that George died a different way. He asked how. I said the policeman knelt on him until he stopped breathing. "What's knelt?" "With a knee."
