that's fair! I'm coming at it from a different place, where I really want to be able to pronounce the Chinese words properly but the pinyin screws me up, not because it's giving me unfamiliar sounds, but because it's pairing them to letters I read as completely different sounds

I think there was a recitation trick we learned to just go through the pinyin alphabet and that helped cement the sounds in my mind. I learned how to read and write in English before Chinese so I get you. Found this video, maybe it'll help?https://youtu.be/dc-QrFahttg
