i feel like omgcp discourse is very similar to sherlock bbc fandom’s issue in the sense that the comic started having very long hiatuses and fandom ended up clinging on to very detailed fanon so when it came back ppl were likepic.twitter.com/QDc5tcxhTD
very yes. also I think there's a fandom phenom where, the more time passes between instalments of a thing, the more people forget the imperfections of it, so when those same imperfections show up in subsequent instalments, they act like it's a defilement and not continuity.
for instance: teen wolf literally never made sense. there are like two full moons in the first episode, the chronology and mythology were always all over the place, but when it was happening in S4 people were like, "THESE ARE BRAND NEW PROBLEMS!!"
see also: people thinking the battle sequences in the hobbit films were OTT and overlong compared to LOTR when LOTR literally had legolas bringing down an olyphant and surfing its trunk, plus also surfing on a shield, all the gimli dwarf-tossing jokes etc
