so many people are mad about the various retcons and worldbuilding flubs in TROS and like. I get that, but at the same time, I was never, ever watching Star Wars for crisp details and continuity. I am here for the characters, the drama and the space magic visuals.
None of them have known each other long, but they're still implied to be hanging out in the time that passes between TLJ and TROS. And it's still more than we got in TLJ.

It makes sense for a second act to separate the heroes before they are reunited in the third. I agree that it was a grave mistake to separate poe and Rey before we could get a proper read of their dynamic but I don't generally mind a period of separation in a second act

The problem with relying purely on implication that it's all tell don't show. I'm no "show don't tell" purist, but I do think it's a problem when too much of the relationship building is in the exposition.
