Not all arguments have two sides, bro. “Ranch or vinaigrette” is something you can debate; “are slurs bad” is not.

That’s not what I’m debating. Obviously I know slurs are bad I’m not an idiot. But if he didn’t want those words in his locker room then that’s a different story that’s all.

If he didn’t want slurs in his locker room, he shouldn’t have said them. End of. I assume you’re trying to assert he’s not racist “in his heart” or whatever, but even IF that were true, racist actions don’t require racist intent to have a racist impact.

Here, it’s simple: I’ll even go first. As a white person raised in a frequently racist society, I’ve said racist things before. I didn’t get it at the time, but they were still racist and harmful, regardless of my intent. And if I do it again, I deserve to be held accountable.

You’re feeling uncomfy right now, I’d guess, because you’re feeling like this definition of racism means you’ve said racist things too. Don’t try and twist the definition to exonerate yourself uncritically. Admit the error, commit to doing better, and listen to others speak.

Intent matters, but so does the outcome. Manslaughter is different to murder, but someone still ended up dead. If we only cared about what people meant and not about what they did, we’d never get anywhere good.

Nice of you to argue against a weaker point I never tried to make.
